How can I start volunteering?
In order to start volunteering please read our "How to Volunteer". After filling out an application you will receive a response within seven working days via email.
How old do I have to be to volunteer?
You must be 18 or over to volunteer at WRS due to liability reasons. WRS does value the time and talent of youth so parents can contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Adam, directly at volunteer@wildlife-edm.ca or at (780) 433-0884 to discuss other areas youth can become involved in WRS. We are always open to new opportunities!
Where is WRS located?
WRS is located on an acreage west of Edmonton, as we're on an acreage we do not have a fixed address. Please see here for directions. * Please note that there is no public transport to our shelter.
Do you offer carpooling for volunteers?
For liability reasons we are unable to offer carpooling for volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering you either need to have access to a vehicle you can use, or have someone you know be able to drop you off and pick you up from your shifts.
Do I need any vaccinations in order to volunteer?
We ask that all volunteers are vaccinated for Tetanus, this vaccination typically lasts for 10 years and is usually available for free at medi-centres. Check with your doctor for more details. We also ask that volunteers that would like to help staff care for mammals, get vaccinated for rabies. This is not a requirement and we will give you more details on why you might need it and how to get vaccinated at the information sessions we hold.
