JWAP was launched as a pilot project in March 2008 with the main goal of empowering the next generation of conservationists. Thanks to the Education Team (an amazing group of volunteers), Telus and Imperial Oil (JWAP sponsors) the pilot project was a success. Within 6 weeks, JWAP inspired over 1,200 Grade 4 and 5 students to appreciate and protect wildlife. Teachers valued the learning opportunities our presentations brought to their students, and requests for JWAP presentations have increased every year.
In the 2008-2009 school year, JWAP added Grade 6 to the program and spoke to over 4,000 elementary students. The program now covers Grades 3-6 with Grade 3 being added in the 2009-2010 school year. In 2010, the Capital City Clean Up and its major sponsor, HSBC, partnered with WRSE to empower students to do their part. JWAP continues to create a vibrant community of knowledgeable and passionate youth, ready to work together to preserve and protect Edmonton and the Capital Region’s ecosystems and wildlife.
